The MODIS snow products are created as a sequence of products beginning with a swath (scene) and progressing, through spatial and temporal transformations, to a monthly global gridded product. The snow cover algorithm identifies snow-covered land, including fractional snow cover and snow albedo (in Collection 4); it also identifies snow-covered ice on inland water. The MODIS sea ice products also begin the sequence with a swath product, and through spatial and temporal transformations, continue to daily products in the EASE-Grid projection focusing on both the north and south polar regions.
